Riders and Pilots - Bikes and Planes - what's the deal?

aircraft_banking_motorcycle_pilot_0.jpg
There's a pretty big chance that if you fly a plane, you also ride a motorcycle. Why?

A recent article by Fred Rau in Friction Zone magazine explores the correlation between riding motorcycles and flying aircraft. Fred says a pilot is 12 times more likely to be a motorcycle rider than an average person, and that a U.S. Marine pilot's number one cause of injuries was due to motorcycle accidents.

In the back of my mind I've always suspected that many pilots were also riders.

As it turns out, this new 1125R is pretty easy to ride fast, even though I had just been handed the bike five minutes earlier.

MotoGP To Be A Spec-Tire Class in 2008?

Valentino_Rossi_Fiat_Yamaha_MotoGP_0.jpgThe bosses of MotoGP are mulling over a spec-tire rule for 2008, forcing all riders to use one brand of tires. Just like World Superbike. All this after just one year of Bridgestone dominating the podium. Is this a good thing?

The bosses at Dorna, owners of the MotoGP race series, have proposed the introduction of a single tire rule for all MotoGP bikes in 2008. CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta said "We have made a proposal in the Grand Prix Commission meeting today to reach an agreement between all the different tire manufacturers for the use of tires in 2008, owing to the situation in which some factories believe that they can't have tires which they think are competitive. We thought that the best possibility is to go to a one tire rule".
