Three Bikes That Changed My Life. Sort of.

No matter how many motorcycles you've owned, a few are bound to stand out. Which ones do you regret selling? Which ones taught you something useful? Which ones scared the piss out of you? In other words, which ones changed your life? Here's my list.

Motorcyclist magazine has featured "The Bike That Changed My Life" in recent issues, and the magazine's Brian Catterson recently editorialized about some of the bikes that changed his life. Perhaps to satisfy his ample ego, or maybe just to fill up space, Catterson featured not one but five bikes that were significant in his life.

Naturally I started thinking about the bikes that "changed my life". The term "changed my life" is probably a bit strong, but I suppose that in a subtle, Zen-like way, you could say my life was changed by a few of the
many bikes I've owned.

A Life of Motorcycling

I’m no kid. I’m 49 years old. Yes that’s right, 49. No matter how much I deny it, I’m old. So why do I feel like a kid every time I swing a leg over a motorcycle?

Ride Review: The Lookout Roadhouse and Ortega Highway

The Lookout Roadhouse is a must-visit if you are in southern California -- great views, food, and like-minded company.

Roadhouse Review: Cook's Corner, Trabuco Canyon, California

Like the Lookout Roadhouse, Alice’s Restaurant, and The Rock Store, Cook’s Corner is a California roadhouse legend.

Ducati Hypermotard First Ride - Believe the Hype!

On a bright sunny Saturday morning the MotorcycleSmack.com editors got
to sample the new Ducati Hypermotard. The Hypermotard either creates
a new genre of streetbikes, or redefines the word "sportbike", depending
on your point of view.

Event Review: Long Beach Motorcycle Swap Meet

A wide variety of bikes were seen at the Long Beach Swap Meet.

The guys from MotorcycleSmack.com went to the Long Beach Motorcycle Swap Meet on June 24th, at Veterans Stadium in Long Beach, Californinia.

This swap meet has been going on for many, many years.  One vendor we talked to had been selling there for over 20 years.    The visitors are mostly older, too, with many of them proudly displaying their allegiance to Harley Davidson on shirts, hats, and tattoos.

Burning Bikes: The Wacky, Weird Vehicles of Burning Man

One of the most interesting parts of Burning Man, at least for this gearhead, is the wacky collection of vehicles. Not your basic choppers or streetfighters...oh no, those would be far too normal for a Burner (as many participants call themselves). Just like in the “default world”, all motorized vehicles must pass inspection by the DMV before they can be operated on the “playa” surface.

Event Review: Isle Of Man TT Races 2007

For die-hard motorcycle roadracing fans, a trip to the Isle of Man TT races is an absolute must-do. No other race in the U.S., or even the world, quite matches the experience of seeing the TT in person.
